The breath test
Hold the fabric against your mouth and exhale. If air passes easily, it breathes. Cotton poplin passes. Most knit jersey half-passes. Polyester fails.
The cling test
Dampen a corner and press it to your arm. Poplin lifts away; jersey and synthetics stick. Clinging is what makes hot sleepers wake up.
