Cotton Poplin vs Jersey vs Polyester: Which Boxer Fabric Is Best for Indian Weather?

Whats Down grey paper-planes printed boxers. Close-up on the beach with the woven label

Forty-degree afternoons, sticky monsoons, air-conditioned offices. Indian weather asks a lot of your underwear. The fabric of your boxer shorts decides whether you forget you’re wearing them or think about them all day.

Polyester and blends

Cheap, bright, and hot. Polyester doesn’t breathe, so sweat sits on your skin. Fine for a gym short, miserable for all-day boxers in Mumbai in May.

Cotton jersey

Soft at first, but knitted fabric stretches out, clings when damp and loses shape quickly. Most “cotton boxers” under ₹300 are jersey.

Cotton poplin

A tight plain weave of 100% cotton. It’s smooth, crisp and airy. Air moves through it, sweat wicks out, and it never clings. It takes digital printing beautifully, which is why our prints look sharper than jersey prints. It also gets softer with washing without going limp.

Verdict

For Indian heat, cotton poplin wins on breathability, durability and looks. It’s the only fabric we use across the men’s and women’s racks: hand or machine washable, colourfast, made in India.

Good to know

Sleep: For sleep, loose and breathable wins every time. Cotton poplin lets air move and dries quickly if you run hot; a relaxed leg doesn’t grip, and the inner elastic doesn’t dig in when you roll over. Most people keep their softest, most-washed pair for bed.

Fit: The cut is relaxed: a roomy leg that ends above mid-thigh, enough rise to sit where boxers should, and no fly. Which means no gaping when you wear them as shorts and one less seam interrupting the print. True to size under trousers, one up for lounging.

Sizing: Sizes run S to XL with a waist chart in inches and centimetres on every product page. Measure where your boxers will sit, just below the navel, and land in the middle of a range. Between sizes? Go one up if you mostly lounge and sleep in them, true to size for wearing under jeans.

Quick answers

How should I wash them?

Cold, with similar colours, inside out, line dry. Hand or machine: both are fine.

Are these underwear or shorts?

Both. The inner elastic, back pocket and woven cotton poplin mean they pass as shorts out of the house; the relaxed cut means they sit flat under trousers.
