Can Tight Pants Cause Low Sperm Count?

If you’re wearing tight pants, it’s not your imagination.

There is a link between tight pants and low sperm count in men. In fact, there’s even a term for it: “trousers-induced infertility.”

The reason for this is that tight pants can cause compression of the testicles, which can damage their function and result in reduced sperm production. This is thought to be caused by the pressure on the blood vessels and nerves in the pelvis and lower abdomen, which leads to decreased blood flow and nerve activity.

A study conducted in 2009 found that men who wore tight pants for at least three hours a day had lower sperm counts than those who wore looser pants.

The researchers found that the amount of heat generated by the tight pants was enough to reduce the sperm count.

Because this is an interesting question, I’ll add some extra information:

According to a study published by The Journal of Andrology in 2003, “Men with varicocele (a condition of varicose veins in the scrotum) were found to have a higher incidence of sperm abnormalities and reduced semen quality.”
